Ocean Arrowhead
Salvaged Surfboard Sculptures
By Douglas Cross

The Ocean Arrowhead series was started in April of 2010. Created from salvaged surfboards, each piece is one of kind. The sculptures are created in beautiful “Surf City” Huntington Beach, California. The series celebrates and salutes surf culture. Using retired, damaged, and salvaged boards, a new canvas is created and new life brought to these historical relics. OA also acknowledges the need to protect our environment through reuse. The line hopes to inspire innovative ways of recycling used products that would otherwise be discarded.

Artist Bio: Douglas Cross

Born in Southern Indiana, Douglas grew up working in many art mediums. He credits his parents, art teachers, and talented friends for providing well balanced exposure to various methods and mediums. Study of Engineering, Technology, and Construction at Purdue University helped provide tools and unlock resources that would lead to the mixed media sculptures he creates today. In addition to living in Indiana, and Southern California, the artist also had the opportunity to experience life in Times Square, New York, and various cities in Florida. Project management of various high end development and construction projects drove this amazing chance to experience and explore these areas. Art museums and festivals were always at the top of his list of sites to see. Douglas also enjoys and has a passion for stand-up comedy. He has performed at many Southern California over the past 11 years, including the Irvine Improv, The Comedy Store, The Laugh Factory among many others.
